    I have usually seen people evaluate the key components of an event. Examples include:

    Speakers: Usually it is not only the speaker's knowledge but the speakers' ability to communicate and maintain the interest of the audience. They have to win the minds and hearts of the audience. You want the attendees to talk about the events speakers like many speak of Steve Jobs. So the first question is how the attendees view the speakers.

    Staff: Ask attendees about the performance of the staff. Having an Master of Ceremonies for the stay along with some key staff is important. They fill the cracks between the Speakers and can play a roll in helping to form group discussions.

    Content: Did the content provide important information and was it thought provoking. Discussing new technology is OK but discussing new technology and the possible impact on industry is something more. It provides the attendees with good basis to begin discussions among each other.

    Activities: Questions about whether the event provided opportunities for interaction with other attendees. This can happen over lunch or through round table discussions. Well design lunches also help - often these will have assigned seating to align industries and job functions at the same table.

    Venue - How did they feel about the size of the rooms, lunch and coffee breaks, getting to and from the venue, etc. Sometimes venues can be too crowded and conversely it is hard to get ten people to talk to each other when they sit in a large hall where they can sit far apart.

    Agenda - Ask what areas they are most interested in so you to schedule the most interesting parts through the day. A balanced agenda will encourage them have stay to the end, and to have something enjoyable in the middle.

    Attendees - You can ask the attendees how valuable it was to meet the other attendees at an event. Usually this is difficult- how do you ask an attendee if they thought the other attendees added value to the meeting? It does help target attendees but then again you want as many attendees as possible.

    I have 1 easy criteria: how many people asked for your business card without you having to force them to take it.
    I then shows that YOU HAVE BEEN AN INTERESTING PERSON and those people want your business card to put you in their directory of people to keep in touch with -for yourself or for your company services-. Too many people handle you their card and they finally throw it in the bin when you are not there.

    NB. OIt is frustrating when nobody ask you for your card, but after you have a perfect pitch, people will be interested in meeting you again.

    Thank you very much for your quick response, Mr. Ho Ba Dam.:) I think that your answer brought me one of the factors to assess the ability of networking or in other words, networking skill of an individual. As you just said, in terms of an effective networking, the criteria is the number of business card we can get without us having to force other people to do so.

    So if I make it clearer when referring to the following points, what factors will you name? Or what questions do I have to ask in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the networking event that my company organizes. It is not only kind of networking event, it could be any other types of events. I just made it more specific to that extent so that it would be easier to visualize.

    By saying so, I am looking at the number of participants and whom live to see the end of the event, the number of journalists come and write about your event after that, whether or not the activity consistent with participants' expectations, are they satisfied with the accommodation, catering, gifts and souvenirs, etc. and so forth.

    Could you please add some more factors or questions apart from these ones. Thank you in advance.
