 Becoming a millionaire in Vietnam is much more difficult than abroad. Just as an example: in my neighborhood in France and in the USA, there are many 40+ year-old employees/families  who have 2/3 houses (Paris, mountain and sea side) 3 cars for husband, wife and children. The reason is very simple, there are much more people who can buy a 500$ item every month.

Let's take BMW Vietnam, they sell about 80 cars/month for all Vietnam clients. 70 carsx12 months x5,000$ profit = 4,200,000$. In France, any BMW car agent in average city can sell 70 cars, in USA or Germany even more. In my business that is insurance for medical, home, car, office and factories, buying insurance is compulsory by law so every 68 million people buy insurance, so many insurance agency owners are millionaires.

The risk in Vietnam doing business is very high, much higher than in Europe. The cost for employee is low, but rental increase, theft of idea/intellectual rights and brands, selling cheap copies, corruption to import goods, import taxes are fixed by the law. In Western countries the costs may be high but they are fixed, so a good business person can make a precise profit & loss calculation before starting business. Customs do not retain your container at ports, there are spare parts to manufacture in the country before selling or export, changing tax rates is very rare: there are no hidden costs that make your business losing money.

For example, you import wood to make a table you sell at +15% profit, if the import tax go up +20% (to protect VN companies from foreign imports), you lose money. If you planned opening your bar until 1am to make 1,000$ profit and the police ask for coffee money 2,000$ or they close your bar at 11pm, if the landlord increase rent by 2,000$/month or the neighbor open the same bar next door at cheaper price, you lose money. All this does not happen in Western countries too much.
