Teacher - a noble job, and tough one as well. How can a good English teacher make more money?
Dear all,
There is one thing I have been wondering. It is no secret that teachers do not get paid what they should. Although English teachers have quite better salary than many others in the Education field, their salaries are often just enough to live on. So what do teachers (me myself and for those who are in the same situation having a passion for a real change in life) do when looking for more money to pay off bills or prepare for a better life? Could you please help me do this systematically or give some ideas to move on, e.g: making online courses, websites, or something relating to business, etc. beside the traditional teaching in schools? I do love teaching and sharing my knowledge and experience. Thank you so much for any advice. I really appreciate and look forward to replies from anyone - from anyone.

More money equals to harder work, doesn't it? Since you are a good English teacher, I think the most suitable extra job for you is writer, a freelance writer for newspapers, magazines or a freelance translator. Another job is tutor, or a tour guide. You can find those jobs by creating a blog and try to attract many people to visit your blog. When this number increases, tell everybody that you are finding extra jobs. I believe more job oppoturnities will come to you thanks to your networking skills.:)

1. If you can write/translate, write. Obviously, it's ideal situation if you can find magazines or websites to post your pieces and pay you royalty. However, you can also put up your writings on Amazon for sale as electronic books at no cost. This option requires you understand how to attract attentions from potential buyers/readers, and how to prepare a document correctly and nicely.
2. How about extracurricular classes. We are talking about classes outside of your official job, obviously. Lots of English schools need teachers, even part time teachers. You can do a search for english school for children in your city and ask their personel department or their CEO directly. Even in Hanoi there's a demand for such teacher. Or you can organize your own class at home if you can afford the space.
3. I am not sure about doing translation for translation agencies. As I understand it, there's a fundamental difference between the English level needed for translation and the English level needed for teaching. Not even an English lecturer in colleges can do this translation up to spec, from my experience. You can try, of course, but dont be surprised if the agencies send back your works as unsuitable-

Vn family is getting richer and invest much more into kid education. If you can teach English at home in a creative and practical way: English + math n science in English + some art project ( like teacher in international school do), u can have $15-20/ hour. Not bad at all to live in VN
