Which is the book that changes your life?

My apology if I am annoying you but I do think FACEbook has made deep impact on my life as well as many others. Honestly, Facebook is not really a book (if this question is not metaphorical) but it has been saving thousands stories (notes) of thousands people. At least I have read notes of sons and daughters who are living far from their hometown and how much they miss their parents; I see Vietnamese teenagers change their avatar together to show their spirit in defending our country. Links of emotional piecies of life are posted and by the way people "like" them, I know they are touched. Facebook like an open novel including chapters that are waiting to be completed by our true emotion. I just want to share my thoughts about this type of "book" which does not belong to any traditional written form. Hope you enjoy them :)

I have shelves of books I have read and collected over many years. They tend to fall into categories.

There are the motivational books like Covey, Roberts, Carnegie, etc. These are good for you if you feel a need to "pump your self up". Essentially we are all strong and sometimes we need to motivate our selves. These are OK but light and when you read one, well you are likely to read another and another to keep pumping yourself up. I am not saying that is bad but they don't fall into the category of one main book for me.

Then there are management books. I like these a lot too. Drucker, Shafer, Kaplan/Norton, and others. These are very helpful and you can often find ones specific to a situation or process. Again I like all of these but there is not one that really I can say stands out. I can say "Oh that is like Kaplan Norton . . . "

Of there are novels and I find really great examples in novels and writers. Jefferson's "I am a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work the more I have off it" or Twain's "Always do good, it will gratify some and astonish all the rest". Great stories of human nature. But again not one stands out.

The one book I would choose, and it is a tough decision to choose just one, is the Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli. When you read this it at first seems foreign. He has many examples through the book of management, strategy and theory. When you read it, you may see how it applies to things in your life, but afterwards you will see his theories in everything. Personal relationships, government, business relationships, negotiations, and decision making. Most other modern writers draw upon his stories and just re-write them as they apply to specific situations.
