Great question Hau. An old survey suggests that many people fear public speaking more than death itself!

Here are some tips that have helped me:

    1. Aim to impact not to impress. I believe the way to build real confidence is to remove the focus from ourselves and what others will think of us and focus on the audience and what they really need to know, learn or take action. When we communicate to impact and not to impress, the negative pressure is no longer on us.

    2. Practice early. Ask someone you trust to give you feedback as you practice. There are 4 components that make a great presentation - Speaker, Content, Environment & Engagement. You want someone who can give you some insight on how to improve on your delivery as a speaker, in your content, how to set up the most suitable room arrangement and how to get the listeners involved (if possible). Another way is also to video yourself with your phone to analyze yourself.

    3. Be yourself. We can learn from other great presenters and still be ourselves. Find a style you are comfortable with. If possible, wear what makes you comfortable. Experiment with different positions that help you communicate more comfortably and confidently. Some prefer to stand and speak loudly. Some prefer to sit and have a conversation with the audience. When you the speaker are comfortable, your audience will also feel comfortable and their body language will communicate that to you, thus also increasing your confidence.

All the best with your presentation and have lots of fun with it! Don't give up and keep on growing to be a great presenter :)
