Action, Desired Results, Passion
I have just participated in a seminar at Amway tonight. The speaker from Thailand said that most people start working by having a PASSION, then comes ACTION, to get DESIRED RESULTS however, for him, he started by taking ACTION, get the DESIRED RESULTS and then come a PASSION. What do you think about this? In which way did you choose a job to do, was it passion or action that came first? Thank you in advance for sharing!

I think one can take action without passion for a desired result. You may need money to eat (i.e. desired result) and will take any job to achieve the result. It does not mean you will make a lot of money or enjoy it but you will get to a desired result. Passion usually is in a specific area - someone could have a passion for engineering but not entertainment. I don't think selling Amway products to achieve a desired result will ever create passion for someone who is passionate about engineering, or entertainment, or running a hotel.
When I hire people I talk to them and try to identify their passion first. If hiring an analyst I look for someone with a passion for quantitative analysis, not someone who is passionate in sales. I do that because I want them, me, and my company to be successful.
If I was recruiting a person who was a quantitative analyst into a sales position, that candidate should be cautious. There is too high a risk for failure, especially if the candidate is not passionate about sales. It could be that the recruiter has an incentive to just bring on as many people as they can. Maybe the work is all commission based so the candidate won't be paid without a sale. Or the company could require the candidate to buy "inventory" which is really just taking cash from candidates, not giving them a job.
All in all follow passion first and be suspect of those offering you something that is not your passion.

If you start with Passion , the chances that you have high enery for action and therefore have results is much higher than having action without passion first, then hope that result and passion would come later. As a network marketing company. Amway need people to join their system as many as possible, so they intentionally present in a way to support that desired action, not necessarily the true tnat other management would recommend. @Binh Nguyen Thi Lam - Knowing passion and limitations are both important. They work best together. You need to work within your limits and still work with passion. A phrase from Clint Eastwood's Magnum Force (movie) that I reference often on this subject is "A man's gotta know his limitations". We all have limitations we need to work within and knowing those limits are important or else we will waste time and effort for something we can never accomplish. I guess what he was trying to prove is that.. Even though we do not know much about Amway at first, which equals to there is no passion, but working at Amway will help solve the three most important things in life that they named: money, health and time, means help us get the desired results in life, then we should do. He also said, kind of, do what is the best thing, don't do what we can do best. Because when we do what we can do best, the result might not always be as desired. For example, a person is good at cooking Pho (famous Vietnamese food), he opens a restaurant selling Pho, not 100% he will succeed. However, if we know something is the best thing to do, and the desired results are certainly gonna be achieved,...

I will just give you my advice that there are companies who don't care too much if employees make good money. Their model works on getting as many employees to join. Very few will make any significant income.
Be cautious when someone says ignore your passion, ignore what everyone else has learned. Red flags should go up in your mind as to why that would be true. That is when you should stop and learn more.
