If you have a staff always say " yes" there must be a good team or not ?

Hi Tran Thanh Phong,
To begin with, I wanna ask you what do you think about “yes-man”?
For me, saying yes is a good attitude of progressive but always saying yes is highly suspect. I think there are two issues that we need to look into.
It is theoretically impossible for us to say no to our boss. We, therefore, always say yes when receiving assignment from management, whether we are able to perform that task or not. This point of view, I know, does not make sense but it has become ingrained and hardly to be wiped out. It means saying yes is a must but how about the story behind the scenes?
Let’s take my colleague for example. He always says yes in front of my CEO and when the CEO goes away, he shows his apparent disappointment and disagreement. Then, he tried to kick the ball of duty to others. His bad habit has generated a poor working environment in our team but no one dares to speak out because they are all aware that guy is my CEO’s dearest employee.
On the other hand, as a sensible management, you will surely know how to delegate the right job to the right person. Also, when receiving an assignment, employees basically can do that job in his field since he is qualified enough to do. That was the reason why you chose him at first in recruitment process. And he surely says yes when you appoint him to a particular job. But the issue is that behind the saying yes, how perfectly he performs that task? He will do that job based on duty because he is paid to do or with all his heart?
My sharing seemingly goes out of track because you mentioned a team but my reply is more about story of individual, but I believe the attitude of the two objectives are the same. So, you’d had better equip yourself with profound understanding of your employees to find out that their saying yes originates from the bottom of their heart and determined mind or it is just a sugar-coated tongue. That would be the most precise answer for the issue of the bad or the good. :)
I wish you have fun and good result with your team!
