    It is fairly easy to position your brand in real business situation, it can be built in 1-3 years. Jibe Phan Thiet= the Vietnam top spot for kite surfers, youtube for Vietnamese, alibaba for buyers of ethnic minorities products, anphabe where Vietnamese leaders connect, Vietnamgoogle search and find in Vietnamese language the resources in Vietnamese, facebook for the thai speakers...
    Now you have 2 problems really to make it a business:

    #1: MARKETING: Will you be able to attract enough of "your market" for which you position by interacting with the right message and the right image so that your community grow all the time to 'big enough'. when you grow, and the competitors jump in, will you be good enough to stay #1 on 'your market'... because competitors will not stay looking at you doing nothing if they feel the money is near.

    #2: FINANCIALLY PROFITABLE: talking about money, will you be able to 'monetize', means make money thanks to 'your tribe'. knowing that there are 2 ways to make money on the Net: a- sell advertising + b- sell a product.

    So let's take a real life situation (the numbers are invented): my friend (same as my name) at Jibe Phan Thiet developed a community of a few thousand kite surfer from around the world looking for top windy spot for kite surfing, let's say 'crazy kite surfer worldwide in big wind = 2,000 members'. blog, facebook, website + his time say 12,000$/year. his community is just a few thousand 0$ from advertising. 1 week/year, he organizes an international kite tour competition with only 60 competitors making say 3,000$ on that week, he has a resort say he makes 2,000$ on rooms, he owns a windsurfing school, makes 500$ from lessons, at the end of the week closing party 1,500$, he organizes kite surfers tours in Vietnam and airtickets +2,000$= 9,000$ and by chance he gets Sports Channel 5,000$ TV rights for a total income 14,000$ - 12,000$ costs= net profit $2,000. so with a Positioning to a small 2,000 members, my friend positioned himself in the market and was able to monetize profitably thanks to his community.

    Tools help develop a brand positioning. And you should use several of them. A good start is to analyze the existing value of your brand. Next, look into your consumer's experience by auditing their purchasing / engagement journey. Organize your customers into segments and sub-segments. Next, create mappings of consumer's perceptions of important attributes within your industry. Finally, check major trend-tracking services to understand what are the trends that are likely to drive consumer choice in the next 5 years. Finally, assess the communications of your competitors, so you understand their positioning clearly. At this point you should see the open positions in the market. Pick one and own it! If all this seems a bit overwhelming, just take it one step at a time. Working on it daily with a small team you can finish in about two weeks.
